Let there be light

I'm still trying to get back into my schedule of working on the things that I should. This past week at the Farmer's Market, I picked up a couple more special orders - adding to the long list of things I need to do. I thought I could knock these three out pretty quickly, so I worked on them first. I know a little backward, but I don't think I ever do things in a logical order. Two of the items I made were taper candle holders. I thought they turned out pretty well and might be adding them to my repertoire.

back from vacation!

Yea, so now I am revived and ready to work, work, work....or something like that. It was great to get away for a bit and recenter myself. So back to working on special orders.

If you haven't heard, Joe and I got engaged while we were away. Now I've been thinking about what kind of center pieces would we have. I really want something very simple - maybe a flat black or semi shiny with a couple of cut flowers. Thoughts?

Manipulation

I’ve been fascinated by Potter’s who can take thrown pieces and alter them and create something wonderful. Recently, I have taken to altering pieces. I’ve been throwing a cylinder without the bottom, altering the shape to an oval, rolling out a slab for the bottom and then assembling the pieces once they are leather hard. This is very fun and is making working with clay exciting. I’ve been experimenting with making the handles more ornamental and making the whole assembly a bit more polished. The pictures are examples of what I have been working on lately.

Frequent Shopper?

Loyalty cards are the big thing now – everyone from department stores to grocery stores seem to have them. I’ve considered it and was just asked by a loyal customer about the possibility of a frequent shopper or loyalty card. This brings up many questions. Many of the cards that I have seen get 10 punches and then get your loyalty gift. How do you see it working for Pottery Heaven? Should I go by the amount spent or by the number of pieces purchased? Would it work best if I held onto the cards, so I can just look them up for customers?
