The Color of Gray

There are so many great colors in the spectrum.  Bright ones, dark ones, cool ones, warm ones - sometimes its hard to choose which is best.  I am a big fan of gray - sounds boring, right?  There are so many shades of gray.

Just a Little Texture

I have refined my pottery forms and have been gradually taking a form that works very well and adding another dimension with texture.  I turned my spoonrests into something extra interesting by changing up the texture.

My unity candles are simple and elegant, but I have been toying with the idea of adding in some texture.  I had purchased a flower form a while back and added on some texture as I was finishing a pillar candle holder.

What do you think? I will need to go back in and refine it. Do you think it takes away from the form or enhances it?  Imagine it on a finished piece.

The Artist Behind the Art

When I am viewing art, I often form some kind of vision of the artist who created the work. Sometimes I am close, but most of the time I am way off. It makes me think of my own work and wonder what kind of visions are drawn about me. 
   

In college (I was a professional student for a while), I experimented and was inspired and challenged by the others in the studio.  I experimented a lot with creative glazing, patterns, and whimsy.

Once I got out in the real world and started working in the professional realm (lead developer at a printing company), my available time dwindled, but the things I wanted to try to make kept growing.   I learned to refine my forms and simplify my glazing and patterns.

Currently, I have very little time (2 little boys -  3 and 7 months), so the time I do get in the studio is precious.  There is usually a special order with a deadline that I am working on.  I am trying to get better at saying "no" for special projects, but sometimes they are just too fun to resist.

I do hope that in whatever stage of life I am in, that I am able to have fun with my work and that I can give my viewers something to smile about.

A Picture Says a Thousand Things...

Your first impression of people, places and things often sticks with you, whether it was good or bad.  Knowing that, I have been working to get better pictures of my work in my Etsy shop to give a better first impression.

Above are the current pictures that I use to represent my work.  They were taken on my deck. Although the lighting is good, the background is a bit of a distraction.

These pictures were taken in my new light booth that my husband built me. Its like going from fast food to a nice restaurant.  What do you think?
